Broadwater Master Plan

Burchills, in an alliance with Griffith University, was awarded a contract by the City of Gold Coast for the provision of specialist environmental services to assist the Gold Coast Waterways Steering Committee in the development of a Broadwater Masterplan.

The scope of work included detailed marine and terrestrial surveys, data analysis and recommendations including specialist advice during the master planning process.

Detailed baseline surveys conducted as part of the project included: seagrass, mangroves, intertidal invertebrates, fish and marine megafauna distribution, diversity and abundance. The survey results were mapped and used to determine areas of high ecological significance for masterplanning purposes.

The final report also included recommendations for opportunities to enhance the ecological health of the Broadwater through improvement in water quality and ecosystem resilience and the creation of offsets such as artificial reefs and shoreline nourishment.
