Broadwater Masterplan Baseline Ecological Assessments

In collaboration with other consultants, Burchills provided design input and was responsible for gaining the necessary local and state government approvals associated with the reclamation elements of this project.

This project involved widening an eroded section of foreshore to create a larger and more functional recreational asset of the local community. This was achieved through the dredging of local marine sediments from within maritime navigation channels, to reclaim around 1 ha of newly created foreshore.

The reclamation created large areas of open grass land, fringed by coastal dunes areas. Pedestrian/bike walkways were also constructed as part of the Gold Coast’s “Oceanway” network. Burchills together with the project team designed the foreshore upgrade to ensure flood impacts were minimised and foreshore treatments where stable. All necessary approvals were obtained from various state assessment agencies along with construction environmental management.
